RightVIEWS has reached 400 subscribers on Substack! More than 50% read each post, as per the analytics the substack shared with me. That is awesome! Thank you to each and every one of you, and a special hat-tip to Manjiri and Abhijit.
I decided that once I crossed 300 subscribers, I would share some personal details about myself. The 300 number was mainly because I wanted to use image from the movie 300. Well, 300 whizzed past so fast that I realised I had to wait for 400. So here goes a little something about me.
Please follow me on Twitter / X here.
It's my go-to app for news and updates, and I check there more often than anywhere else.
Here goes..
I am from Panvel, Mumbai, and currently live in Singapore and Mumbai. I am fluent in Marathi, Hindi, and English and can carry on a conversation in a few Indian languages.
I am married (almost 20 years) with one kid.
I am a Mechanical Engineer, with Diploma in Advanced Computing, MBA from NMIMS and Law Degree from Mumbai University. I have managed a warehouse, worked in a factory unit, done sales, marketing, finance, and research and I used to work on the buy side for a hedge fund. Currently, I invest for myself and work as a lawyer at the Bombay High Court. You can check out more details at my website rahuldeodhar.com.
My motto in life is “Keep Walking”.
I like that philosophy to keep going ahead.
The motto comes from the liquor brand Johnny Walker. I don’t drink or smoke, but yes, their motto works for me.
I love Poems with meaning.
My favourite English Poem is IF by Rudyard Kipling, but it also varies with my mood.
In Marathi, my favourite is Jayostute by Veer Savarkar.
The same goes for songs.
I prefer golden oldies and my fav English song is “And the way you look tonight” Fred Astaire version.
I love Hindi songs again mostly before 1980s. My fav would be Sahir’s songs - anything from Waqt or Humraaz say, “Aage bhi jaane na tu”. Hemant Kumar, SD/RD, Kishore-Rafi-Mukesh, Lata-Asha, Talat Mehmood, are regular on my playlist.
I also like different types of Marathi songs, Arun Date, Sudhir Phadke, Asha Bhosale, Lata and others. Shukra Taara by Arun Date, Runanubandhachya by Kumar Gandharva, Dhund ekant ha are all time favs.

I love New Zealand South Island, preferably near Mount Cook.
Any place in the Himalayas.
Any other mountain will do as well. (Alps - I am looking at you!)
Cricket is religion and Sachin is God!
I follow the Indian team, Mumbai Indians - men’s and women’s, sometimes other teams.
Fan of Sachin, Dhoni, Rohit and Virat. Love Bumrah, Kumble, Shane Warne and Murali.
Hiking is my fav activity
I have trekked in the Himalayas, in Sahyadris, in North East India, in the European Alps
I have done short treks in Australia and New Zealand

I love to read mostly on law and finance. Here are my fav books.
Mahabharata takes the cake.
I love murder mysteries - I have read most of Poirot's collection, all Sherlock Holmes
I am currently reading Jack Reacher and Perry Mason
I love movies
I have watched Shawshank Redemption and Gladiator a million times.
I like Clint Eastwood movies, the usual mindless action stuff - Die Hard, Terminator, Matrix, John Wick etc.
I like Hugh Grant's and Tom Hanks's humour, so I like Notting Hill, Sleepless in Seattle, Pretty Woman, Before Sunrise, A Walk in the Clouds, and Bed of Roses, among others.
I have watched a lot of TV too…
I dream of Jeannie, Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett), Poirot (David Suchet one)
I also like Bones, Monk, Psyche and some others
Only Connect and some British game shows
I love the observational humour of George Carlin and Jerry Seinfeld
